A secure ethane tank for the INEOS site
In Grangemouth, near Edinburgh, INEOS has increased its storage capacity with the construction of a 60,000 m³ ethane tank. This concrete tank, 36 metres high and 56 metres wide, is located at the heart of the petrochemical complex and must meet strict requirements for cryogenic storage.
VSL was involved as a prestressing specialist. The company supplied and installed 234 tonnes of cables, incorporating its anchoring system compatible with temperatures ranging from 0°C to -165°C. The structure comprises 138 horizontal cables and 88 vertical cables accessible via the tank built on piles. This configuration facilitates inspection and maintenance operations.
The threading, tensioning and injection of the cables were carried out in accordance with the site's safety standards. The project, delivered in 2016, has resulted in the commissioning of a sustainable infrastructure suitable for the storage of liquefied gas.
