The first EPR in the world

Areva has entrusted Bouygues Travaux Publics with the civil engineering work for the nuclear island of the world's first EPR, including the reactor, fuel and backup buildings.

On the shores of the Baltic Sea in western Finland, where winter temperatures can reach -28°C, reactor number 3 at the Olkiluoto power plant now stands as a feat of technical and engineering prowess. This imposing fortress has an external reinforced concrete shell 1.80 metres thick and an internal containment structure made of 1.30-metre-thick prestressed concrete, lined with a metal skin for waterproofing.
