A cultural landmark inspired by Yves Saint Laurent’s vision

BYMARO, the moroccan subsidiary of Bouygues Bâtiment International, delivered the Yves Saint Laurent Museum in Marrakech, commissioned by the Pierre Bergé – Yves Saint Laurent Foundation in the city where Yves Saint Laurent said he “discovered colour”.

Conceived as both an exhibition and conservation space, the museum was designed to reflect the spirit of haute couture while anchoring the project deeply in its local context. The building has become a key cultural landmark in Marrakech, dedicated to presenting the work of the renowned couturier and hosting temporary exhibitions focused on contemporary design, anthropology and botany.

Beyond exhibition spaces, the museum also functions as a vibrant cultural venue, incorporating a research library, an auditorium, a bookshop and a café, welcoming both international visitors and local audiences.

Architecture and craftsmanship serving preservation and performance

The architectural identity of the museum is defined by its meticulous attention to materials and craftsmanship. The exterior façades are composed of 250,000 traditional red Tétouan terracotta bricks, laid individually to create a delicate, lace-like texture. Inside, the patio features zellij tilework in a range of green hues, showcasing traditional Moroccan skills.

Highly specialised technical solutions were developed to ensure the optimal preservation of textile collections, with constant control of temperature and hygrometry. BYMARO worked closely with leading experts in acoustics, lighting and audiovisual systems to deliver tailor-made installations, including a state-of-the-art auditorium.

Every element of the project, from the brick façades to the bespoke wardrobes and display systems, was subject to exceptional attention to detail and was supervised and approved by Pierre Bergé throughout the project, ensuring the highest standards of quality and fidelity to the foundation’s vision.
