Energy-efficient renovation: a multifaceted challenge

The Anne Frank Middle School renovation project is part of the sustainable transformation of an iconic facility designed by architect Jean Nouvel in the 1980s. Conducted under a Global Public Performance Contract (MPGP), it combines architectural preservation, modernization of uses, and environmental requirements.

Located on a 17,000 m² site, the school accommodates up to 600 students. It comprises the main building, staff accommodation, a gymnasium, and a completely remodeled courtyard to provide a more qualitative and functional living environment. The project covered the entire site in order to sustainably improve energy performance, thermal comfort, and the quality of the spaces.

The work was carried out while the site remained occupied, ensuring continuity of teaching.
A modular school comprising 135 modules was installed to accommodate students and teaching staff for the duration of the project. This arrangement made it possible to reconcile safety and continuity of service.

Energy renovation was at the heart of the project: exterior thermal insulation, replacement of 3,200 m² of glass facades, installation of fixed sun protection and trellises, and partial greening of the roof.

The connection to the Antony district heating network also marks a major step towards the decarbonization of the site.

Comfort of use and ecological transition

Beyond energy performance, the project affirms a global vision: to offer a learning environment adapted to contemporary challenges.
The restructuring of interior and exterior spaces improves the site's clarity, the quality of its welcome, and the daily comfort of its users.

The school courtyard has been completely redesigned to promote spaces for relaxation and socializing. The greening of 645 m² of roofing contributes to rainwater management, improved summer comfort, and the building's integration into the landscape.

A new production kitchen, sized for 600 covers, has been built to ensure an efficient catering service that complies with current standards. The technical, architectural, and environmental interventions are part of a coherent approach: reducing energy consumption, improving the sustainability of materials, and ensuring a high level of thermal and lighting comfort.

This project illustrates the capacity of an ambitious renovation to enhance existing architectural heritage while fully integrating it into the ecological transition and educational requirements of the 21st century.
