Decongesting access routes to Port Louis
The SAJ Bridge project is part of the Road Decongestion Program launched by the Mauritian government to improve traffic flow to Port Louis, which is regularly congested during rush hour. Located between Sorèze and Chebel, the structure redesigns traffic between the two major roads, the M1 motorway and the A1 Royal Road.
With its three viaducts measuring 450 m, 190 m, and 120 m, its 350-meter extradosed bridge rising 90 m above the Grande Rivière Nord-Ouest, the project is a new strategic artery that will balance traffic flows into the capital. By modernizing a daily mobility corridor, Pont SAJ is helping to improve safety, reduce travel times, and support the island's economic vitality.

The challenges of an island territory
The SAJ Bridge is designed to cross a steeply sloping terrain while ensuring optimal safety conditions. The construction of the extradosed bridge, with a main span of 170 m, is based on the mobile formwork method, which is suitable for long-span concrete structures. This process allows for steady progress on the deck while limiting the impact on the environment and inhabited areas.
Connected by two major interchanges to the M1 and A1 motorways, the SAJ Bridge adapts to topographical constraints and meets the challenges of an island territory.
