A strategic extension at the heart of Greater Paris

The Eole project, an extension of the RER E line to the west, involves the construction of a 6.1-kilometre railway tunnel reaching a depth of 43 metres and connecting Courbevoie to the Haussmann–Saint-Lazare station. Built in a dense urban environment, beneath existing infrastructure and in areas subject to significant constraints, the project required excavation methods adapted to the geotechnical conditions encountered.

As the consortium leader, Bouygues Travaux Publics was responsible for excavating the tunnel and constructing the ancillary structures. This new underground line is a key element of the Île-de-France network, designed to increase rail capacity and improve the reliability of daily travel in the region.

Complex work anticipated from the design stage

Built at great depth, the Eole – Porte Maillot station comprises vast underground spaces organised around halls, platforms and technical areas, and represented a real technical and organisational challenge in terms of design in a particularly constrained urban environment. The civil engineering work was carried out in close proximity to existing infrastructure, requiring close coordination and enhanced safety measures.

The station consists of an open-air hall 155 metres long, 25 metres wide and 35 metres deep, as well as an underground section 70 metres long, 15 metres wide and 14 metres high. It also includes a hall connecting the station to the RER C and the Palais des Congrès, as well as a transfer hall between metro line 1, the RER C and the T3 tramway.

Finally, the station is bathed in light all the way to the platforms thanks to its 110-metre-long glass roof.
