Reconfiguration of the second largest stadium in France
Between 2011 and 2014, Bouygues Bâtiment Sud-Est completely reconfigured the Orange Vélodrome Stadium, Marseille's main sports facility and the second largest stadium in France, with a capacity of 67,000.
This transformation was carried out on behalf of AREMA, which holds the public-private partnership contract with the City of Marseille. Equans Services Bâtiments & Infrastructures, a division of Equans France, is responsible for the stadium's upkeep, maintenance, and facility management until 2045.
While the stands were raised to accommodate 7,000 additional seats and the concrete base was completely redesigned (reception areas, lounges, facilities for athletes, etc.), the real transformation is revealed in the impressive white roof that now overlooks the stands before descending to the façade, giving the stadium the appearance of a huge shell in the heart of the city.
A unique feature of this exceptional site is that the 6,000-tonne roof structure is detached from the concrete structure: it rests on four metal support points, a remarkable technical feat achieved by our teams.
In terms of the environment, the stadium has been awarded a “4-star” rating by UEFA. It also stands out for its energy efficiency, made possible by its connection to a temperate water thermal loop from a nearby wastewater treatment plant, as well as three wind turbines that power the rainwater lift pump to supply the sanitary facilities and water the lawn.
