Bouygues Travaux Publics - Bouygues Offshore
Design-construction of the island's first cargo port
Completed in record time, Puerto Caucedo, located 30 kilometers from Santo Domingo, is the Caribbean's first multimodal cargo port. It can accommodate the largest container ships from Europe and Asia with a draft of up to 15 meters.
Thanks to an ingenious design variation, Bouygues Travaux Publics reduced the overall cost of the project while improving navigation conditions for ships by widening the entrance channel: the 630-meter quay, which was initially planned to be built on a sea embankment, was constructed on land.

A port designed to last
The work also included the construction of a 950-meter breakwater, a 700-meter protective breakwater against strong waves and seismic risks, consisting of a rockfill embankment protected by concrete blocks, and a 70-hectare platform for container storage. Operational buildings and a 2.2-kilometer access road 22 meters wide complete the project. To minimize the spread of coral dust during dredging operations, a very fine-mesh underwater net was installed between the coast and the levee.
