A new basin to support maritime ambitions

Located in the Aude department, Port-La Nouvelle is France's third largest Mediterranean port. In order to accommodate new traffic and support the development of marine renewable energy, the Occitanie region launched a major expansion project entrusted to Bouygues Travaux Publics. The work involved creating a new harbor basin protected by two 600- and 2,430-meter-long sloping breakwaters, reinforced with prefabricated Acropods™.

Designed to withstand the force of waves and dissipate their energy, these extremely robust concrete blocks were produced in a plant set up specifically for the project. This development will enable the port to accommodate new-generation ships, 225 meters long and 36 meters wide, thus meeting the growing needs of maritime and industrial transport.

Combining technical innovation with respect for the coastline

Beyond its impressive construction, the extension of the Port-La Nouvelle port embodies a responsible approach that focuses on preserving natural resources and ensuring the sustainability of structures. Carried out as part of Plan Littoral 21, this project is part of a comprehensive strategy to develop the Mediterranean coastline in response to the challenges of climate change. The design of the breakwaters drew on the expertise of Bouygues Travaux Publics' teams in marine environment modeling, ensuring that the structures blend seamlessly into their ecosystem.

Combining technical innovations and sustainable solutions, this project fully illustrates the Group's ambition: to build port infrastructure that supports the regional economy while respecting the sea and biodiversity.
